Episode 2: How to talk about money
Both of my kids started babysitting around age 12, and that’s when they first asked me how to talk about money. To be clear, they didn’t literally say, “Mom, how do I talk about money?” but they did begin asking me questions like,
- How much should I ask to get paid per hour?
- What if they ask me to babysit for extra kids? Should I get paid more?
- Can they pay me less if the baby is sleeping the whole time?
- What do I do if they don’t have any money on them, and ask to pay me next time?
- What if they come home early and pay me less than they said they would?
When I sat down to work on this episode of the podcast, I realized that adults have the exact same questions too. Whether we’re employed full-time, building a business, or work as a freelancer, getting paid for our work sometimes requires extra conversations.
In this week’s episode we dive into the challenges of talking about money, and offer tips for making that conversation a lot easier for everyone.
